This is a totally different experience to game drives done during the day. As you climb into your vehicle, the cold, invigorating air invites you to cuddle under the Maasai blankets so thoughtfully provided by the driver. Setting off in the darkness, your imagination runs wild, causing you to see predators looming out of the darkness and increasing the level of adrenaline in your blood.


All around, you can see luminous eyes & silhouettes of small animals running away from you. The guide has a powerful spotlight, which he shines on the bush around you. Everything seems larger than life, and more mysterious than when seen during the day.

Suddenly the road ahead is blocked by two huge creatures. They look like something out of the dinosaur era, but are actually two bull elephants, fighting. One has blood running down its tusks, and they glare at you, daring you to move forward. The driver quietly switches off the engine and you wait, all the while praying fervently that the creatures ahead don't turn onto the vehicle. Barely daring to breathe, you wait silently until suddenly the elephants walk off into the bush to finish their fight. You breathe a sigh of relief, and your driver moves the vehicle forward, deeper into the Mara plains, looking for more excitement.
