Ol Moti Crater Hike (Tanzania)

If you have an extra day at the Ngorongoro Crater, take advantage of this full day hike to explore more of the Crater highlands.

A very early departure from the lodge takes you into the Crater floor for a game drive. Continue towards the Maasai village of Nanyokanyoka and begin hiking up the side of the Olmoti Crater to the top of the Crater waterfall. This cascading sheet of water is named the Munge Stream, after the Maasai name given to their ceremonial anklets. These anklets are made from the skin of the colobus monkey, and the white water falling down the dark escarpment does indeed remind one of the black & white monkeys flashing through the trees. Continue hiking to the Crater floor for game viewing on foot. Here you will experience scenic beauty and a sense of solitude.

Head back to the waterfall for a scrumptious lunch, and hike back to the village. Meet up with your vehicle, and with a game drive en route, return to the lodge.
