The Great Rift Valley is home to 2 fresh water lakes; Lakes Naivasha & Baringo and 6 alkaline lakes; Lakes Turkana, Bogoria, Nakuru, Elementaita, Lojipi & Magadi.
Of these, Lakes Nakuru, Elementaita & Bogoria are renowned for their flamingo spectacle.
In addition, Nakuru has a National Park, and visitors to the Park also have access to Hyrax Hill, a prehistoric settlement site.
Lakes Naivasha & Baringo are home to a wide variety of bird species - a veritable paradise for ornithologists, whereas Lake Bogoria also has a Park with thermal stream jets & geysers along its western shores. Lake Bogoria is home to herds of greater kudu, probably one of the only places left in Kenya where you can see them.
Lake Turkana is often regarded as Eden due to the many sources of evidence of modern man's earliest existence. The desolate wastelands, in addition to possessing lava wastes & petrified forests, are home to a surprising variety of wildlife - Grevy's
Zebra, ostrich, gerenuk, oryx and tiang. It is also home to the largest single surviving community of crocodiles.
