Africa's largest wildlife sanctuary lies south of the country with the mighty Rufiji River flowing through the center.
The Reserve has the world's largest concentration of game and the greatest concentration of hippo, crocodile & wild dog in Africa.
The banks of the Rufiji River were the arena in World War 1. German & African troops fought against the British.
Old horseshoes & cartridge cases can still be found here, as well as the funnel & torpedo launchers of the German flagship Konigsberg. In addition to gamedrives in the Reserve, boat trips along the Rufiji and walking safaris can be arranged.
The Reserve is normally inaccessible during the rainy season from March to May.
