Kenya's largest park, Tsavo National Park, is made up of East & West Tsavo, with the eastern section larger and more arid than western Tsavo, and of which large tracts are inaccessible to the general public.
The great elephant herds that once roamed its muddy trails have altered the forested Tsavo West to open grass and bushland. Their vast numbers have dwindled due to poaching which is now under tight control. Mzima Springs, one of the main attractions of Tsavo West, is a crystal clear pool formed by waters originating from the snowcap of Mount Kilimanjaro via the Chyulu Hills.
Here, you can watch, from an underwater observation post, hippo plodding across the pool, and an occasional crocodile lashing its way across, creating a panic amongst the various fish resident in the pool.
