  Zanzibar

Zanzibar - the very name evokes images of mysterious & exotic women whose eyes are lined with kohl, fragrant smells of cloves, spices & incense, Arabesque houses with hand carved doors, a labyrinth of narrow alleyways and Mohammedan mosques.

Once an East African Sultanate, the island has a rich history of culture & tradition, and one can experience this just by walking through the narrow streets of Stone Town.

Many of the old buildings in Stone Town, now restored, serve as guesthouses for visitors, enabling you to be part of history during your stay here.

The island has been declared a World Heritage Site, and its buildings are being renovated by a number of organizations, one of which is the United Nations Habitat Fund.

Zanzibar also offers beach holidays, where snorkeling & diving off the coral reefs are offered in addition to boat trips to outlying islands, most popular of which are Grave & Prison Islands. Nearby, the island of Pemba offers superb diving in crystal clear waters. Too lazy to do anything? Simply relax on sun-soaked shores lapped by balmy waters.
